My name is Seray Grande. I am the founder and President of A Grande Design Inc. (AGD), a tax-exempt non-profit organization located in Lanham, Maryland. The organization was formed to improve the quality of life of the immigrant community in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. AGD is a community-based organization working with the increasing ethnic population in the area. I fled to the United States from Sierra Leone in 1997 during the height of the "Blood Diamond" war. Having been warned of an impending attack I escaped my village with one suitcase. I ended up in Senegal not knowing anyone I was befriended by a wonderful couple. They knew of my struggles and by the Grace of God purchased my airline ticket to the United States. When I arrived in New York, I was frightened and alone. Miraculously I was befriended by a wonderful individual who advised and encouraged me, and helped me make America my home. This meant resolving immigration issues, getting a job, finding a place to live and finding a community where i felt at home. Today, my home is Lanham, Maryland, a community that is located in Prince Georges County, a community that, in recent years, has seen a significant increase in immigrants from Africa. Just like me, many of these individuals came to America looking for a new home and just like me they need help adjusting to a new environment. Reflecting on my life's journey, I knew I had to do something to help other immigrants make America home. With the support of my husband, we formed A Grande Design, Inc. in recognition of our belief that our lives are all part of a greater plan- the grand design of God,
